Gifts that fund care after you.

Mercy Gate is being built to last. Planned gifts — made through a will, a beneficiary designation, or a trust — are how an institution like this one is funded across generations rather than year to year.

Everything on this page is an invitation to a conversation, not a transaction. We work with your own advisors and with Mercy Gate’s planned-giving counsel.

Ways to make a planned gift

Bequest in a will

Name Mercy Gate Foundation in your will or living trust — for a set amount, a percentage, or whatever remains of your estate.

Beneficiary designations

Name the Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy. Often the simplest planned gift; you can change it without rewriting your will.

Stock and other assets

Give stock or other assets that have grown in value directly. Write to us and we will arrange the transfer with your broker.

Charitable remainder trust

A trust that pays you or your loved ones an income for a set time, with what remains going to the Foundation.

Real estate

Gifts of property are considered case by case. Start by writing to us.

Committed; being built

The permanent endowment

We are building a permanent endowment — what the Islamic legal tradition calls a waqf (وقف, a trust held for a purpose). It holds donor gifts in trust and uses only the income they earn to fund Mercy Gate’s mission. The original gift is never spent.

This is how care for the poor was funded in the Islamic world for over a thousand years, and it is how we are building Mercy Gate’s financial base for the next century.

Donors of any background — Muslim, Christian, Jewish, secular — are welcome to give this way if they want a gift that funds care after them, for their grandchildren’s generation and beyond.

Waqf وقف

The gift is preserved. Only what it yields is spent.

How we work with you

Planned-giving conversations are coordinated with your own attorney, accountant, or financial advisor, and with Mercy Gate’s planned-giving counsel. We do not provide legal or tax advice, and we do not supply pre-filled estate documents.

For a bequest, your advisor may need our legal name and EIN: Mercy Gate Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, EIN [XX-XXXXXXX].
